What I enjoyed most about Cayla and Sean was how easy going they were. It was more evident when she told me they’d love to have their engagement session in their new apartment. As a wedding and portrait photographer, I’ve photographed sessions that ranged from a farmers market to beach on a tropical island. This was the first time someone wanted to have an in-home session. I’m really glad she suggested it as the session forced me to think outside the box and make use of the space available.
Sean and Cayla
Sean: Assistant Program Director at Camp Hope
Cayla: 2nd grade teacher
How did you all meet?
Our freshman year of high school in testing advisory class
Exactly how did the proposal happen? (I love details!)
Originally I wanted to do a mini film and rent a theatre out and have all of our family and friends there. (Too expensive) so I thought a little simpler and closer to home. I took Cayla out to the movies and dinner on her birthday. She had mentioned months before how no one has every thrown her a surprise party. We stopped by my parents house after where all of our closest friends and family were there waiting to surprise her with her “birthday party”. I had all of Cayla’s friends submit a video of them saying happy birthday and compiled a “birthday” slideshow for her. However, at the end of the video I told Cayla how much she meant to me, and it turned into me getting down on one knee and proposing.
How did you know your mate was “the one”?
Cayla: I knew Sean was the one, because I can’t imagine spending life without him. He is random, spontaneous, has the best sense of humor and always has me laughing. There’s never a dull moment, he’s my best friend, and even though we’ve changed so much as individuals over the years, my love for him continues to grow everyday.
Sean: how do you ever know someone is the one, you know? But as the years went on between us and all the trials that stood in our way, we both overcame them, together. She has stuck by my side through every obstacle that a relationship can be tested in. Through the military trainings, deployment, and everything else. She has been by me. That’s when I knew she was the one.
Where will you have your wedding? Why did you choose this location?
Butlers Courtyard in League City, TX
We want a small intimate wedding with our closest family and friends. Butlers Courtyard is beautiful , and is a smaller venue, which will create the intimate atmosphere we want. They also have a “Rose Cottage” where the bride and bridal party can spend the day relaxing and getting ready, and “The Shop”, a man cave for the groom and his groomsmen. It will allow us to make fun memories with the people closest to each of us, followed by a night of fun and memories being made all together.
What did you all do for a first date?
We spent a few hours hanging out at the mall, which ended with eating ice cream at Marble Slab. We were teenagers! (And we both still love ice cream)
